Private sessions
Ninety minutes that ask nothing of you
My mind runs at a million miles an hour, and switching off has never come easily to me. By the evening I can feel completely wired. What changed things was ritual: small, deliberate moments of calm. And someone to say, with gentle authority, that now is the time to slow down. Someone to give me permission to rest, to unload, to simply be myself, and to stop worrying about everyone else for a while.
When I make time for a session like this, I get back in touch with what I really feel, want and desire. The small things that have been irking me, the ones I know are out of proportion but can’t stop replaying, quietly work themselves through, almost without my noticing. I can focus again without ruminating. I have a very active brain, in every sense, so it’s perhaps no surprise that restorative yoga is hard for me. I need the touch and the guidance. I almost feel as though I need to be cuddled, and that is what I offer here. Left on my own, simply stretching, it can all feel like too much and a little all over the place. I still love regular restorative yoga, but I needed something more tangible that I could really be within.
Throughout, I hold the seat of teacher. There is always a gentle, professional distance between us, so you can let go safely, in a way that is held and contained.
So I designed it for myself. I began weaving some of these rituals into larger classes of thirty, and over time it became a one-to-one practice. People often describe it as ‘magic’. Its original name was MMM: Manifestation, Movement, Meditation. There is still a lot of manifestation in each session, and a great deal of meditative space.
These sessions are for anyone who finds it hard to unwind, and needs someone to say: it’s time to calm down. They can help you sleep, ease anxiety, and soften low moods and sadness. And sometimes they are simply a treat, for a birthday or for no reason at all, and a reminder of your own worth.
